Senator Hatch is Unhinged

Senator Hatch joins the bandwagon of Right-Wing douchebags who equate a Democratic victory in the fall with a terrorist attack. Bravo, jackass! Here is an email I sent to Orrin-

Although I do not agree with your positions most of the time, I still believed that you were a man of integrity. Unfortunately I was wrong. Your comment linking a Democratic victory in November with a terrorist attack is not only facially ridiculous, but beneath the dignity of a US Senator.

Statements such as yours are common from the mouths of folks like Rush Limbaugh, Michelle Malkin, Ann Coulter, et al. But their increased use by people such as the Vice President, the President's Press Secretary and yourself show how deeply unserious the Republican Party is about the "War on Terror." To people like you this "war" is nothing more than a political tool used to bludgeon your opponents. How else can one explain the fact that nearly five years after 9-11 Osama Bin Laden is still on the loose; terrorist incidents are sky-rocketing, etc?

You really ought to be ashamed of yourself and your party for exploiting the fears and prejudices of the American people. But, somehow I don't believe that you are even capable of shame. Yet, you have the audacity to call yourself a man of faith. How pitiful.

Party of One

So, the dust has begun to settle in Connecticut and Holy Joe still thinks he is more important than his Party. Despite his resounding defeat, HoJo will soldier on, in an effort driven solely by his megalomania, in his attempt to hold onto his beloved Senate seat. If there was any doubt in your mind about Joe's true allegiances, they should be gone right now. HoJo cares only about himself and his party of one.

Remember, if you will, that when HoJo was on the 2000 ticket he failed to relinquish his Senate seat. If Gore had been victorious, the Senate seat from CT would have been appointed by the state's Republican governor. At the time, folks asked HoJo not to run simultaneously for VP and Senate. There were other Democrats that could have run for Senate and held the seat for the Democrats. But HoJo would have none of that. He did not care if he became VP and a Republican took over his Senate seat because for HoJo, it's all about him. Party be damned, people of CT be damned. Nothing will get in his way of holding onto his seat.

In many instances that sort of determination would be admirable. But here, it stands in stark contrast to HoJo's near fellating of Dick Cheney during their 2000 VP debate; his actual fellating of W;, and, his "shut the f*ck up" to Democrats who criticize his beloved president Bushie.

HoJo would make an interesting case study for psychologists. What is it that causes someone to become so self absorbed and sanctimonious? In that sense, HoJo is a great deal like his BFF Bushie. Neither tolerates questioning or dissent; both believe that he alone is correct and divinely inspired. And both are truly, truly scary and dangerous to the US and our democracy.

Is it really a surprise that the creator of Girls Gone Wild is not only a raging jackass, but also hates women and likes to force drunk ones into having sex with him. Oh, and he also likes to get violent, too. Read the whole story here.

Stu Rothenberg Just Doesn't Get It

In his guest appearnace at Political Wire today, Rothenberg rolls out the usual tripe from the Beltway about the Lamont-Lieberman race. Oh, and he even refers to Lamont supporters and (presumably) the netroots as "the crazies in the party." Below is my email to Stu.

Dear Mr. Rothenberg-
Although I have been an admirer of your work for many years, your coverage of the Lieberman-Lamont primary has made me seriously question your understanding of the political climate in the nation and within the Democratic Party. Although I live in Atlanta (and was raised in Massachusetts), I have followed this race for several months via blogs and traditional media. It seems to me that you have, like many other members of the Beltway media, seriously misread Ned Lamont's support.

There are many people like me, who are self-described moderates who enthusiastically support Lamont. My own personal history is as a Republican operative and office-holder, having become a Democrat in the mid-90's. I am certainly not part of the Democratic Party's left-wing (unless one defines that solely on the issue of marriage equality). In fact, as an analyst for the New York State Assembly Ways and Means Committee I was viewed as the "conservative one."

This race is NOT about what you term the "crazies in the party" (which itself is a rather unfortunate and unprofessional way of labeling the Left Wing; one wonders if you believe that the folks who watch Fox News and support the GOP are the crazies of the GOP). What this race highlights is the contrast between those who fail to acknowledge the current political reality- one where a disabled veteran (Max Cleland) can have his patriotism challenged and mocked by someone who never served; where someone who volunteered for Vietnam (John Kerry) has his patriotism questioned by someone who failed to serve; where to question or challenge the administration is met with calls for sedition trials; etc.- and those of us who believe in fighting fire with fire.

Many Democrats, like myself, have tired of a Party leadership unwilling to fight back. Joe Lieberman is even worse than that, though. He has tried to squelch Democratic criticism of the President, and has supplied numerous other figleafs for Bush's agenda.

Democrats who chose to stand up and fight come from all wings of the Party. We are not simply "crazies of the party". Instead we are committed activists who are taking the Democratic Party back from its milquetoast leaders and members. People like me would prefer a conservative Democrat who fights for the Party to a liberal who turns her tail and hides. This is not some ideological purge of the Democratic Party, despite what you and others in the commentariat would like to believe. This is a battle over tactics and strategy, the means to securing power. The sooner you and others in the Beltway chattering class understand this, the better.
