Make Them Own It!

For years, the Right Wing Noise Machine (Faux, Limbaugh, Washington Times et al) have forced the Democratic Party and its leading politicians to apologize/distance themselves from every comment made by someone on the Left. It's about time we started demanding the same thing. Make Bush and company apologize/distance the GOP from Pat "America deserved to be bombed on 9-11 because of abortion and fags" Robertson; James "gays are taking over the world" Dobson; sundry creationists, racists and dimwits; etc.

For too long we liberals have naively thought truth would prevail. Well, maybe our faith in truth will pay dividends in the afterlife. But in the here and now, we are getting clobbered by the demagogues of the Right and their minions at Faux, hate radio, etc.

It is nigh time to fight fire with fire. Make sure America knows that Bush is meeting with an Alabama legislator who wants to ban (actually he said dig a hole and bury) books that have gay characters. Make Bush fucking OWN the wackos on the Religious Right, even when the ties are tenuous. Our high ideals are not going to keep abortion legal or provide equal rights for all. Power is, though. And if we have to lie like those assholes on the Right, then so be it. The American people made it quite clear on November 2 that truth will NOT win out.

Let the games begin!

WTF is Wrong with Some Christians?

Isn't it great that at least one "Christian" school here in the South (where else?) thinks it is educational to provide another perspective on slavery? The booklet in question even goes so far as to claim that slavery was "was a relationship based upon mutual affection and confidence."

If I were a Christian (and thank god, I'm not), I would really have to wonder why these folks were not smited now, instead of waiting for the hereafter in hell.

Dean for DNC Chair

This may come as a surprise to regular readers who may recall the bashing Governor Dean received here during the primaries. And while I still think he was not the right candidate to run against Miserable Failure (neither was Kerry, but that is a different post), he is absolutely the best person to run the DNC. His speech today at George Washington outlines a vision for a forward thinking and battle ready DNC that is DESPERATELY needed.

We Don't Need No Stinking Science

Well, it looks like the Right's disdain for truth and facts is not limited to Faux News. According to this WaPo story, Congressional investigators have found egregious errors in abstinence only sex education programs. I suppose that conservatives are willing to tolerate Big Brother, paternalistic misinformation when it's used as a means to prevent those naughty adolescents from getting off. (Of course, that runs smack into this little problem-- Columbia University researchers found that although teenagers who take "virginity pledges" may wait longer to initiate sexual activity, 88 percent eventually have premarital sex.)
